There are four types of Light Rail Vehicles currently in use in Calgary, U2s (DC and AC Powered) and SD160s (Series 7 and 8). The U2s were acquired from 1980 to 1990. The SD160 Series 7s began appearing in late 2000 for commissioning, but did not enter fully enter service until the Summer of 2001. The latest SD160 Series 8 LRVs started arriving in 2010 and have recently been put into service.
