Northwest Extension Construction - Phase 1
Construction on the Northwest LRT Extension started on July 16, 2001. The first phase consisted of the widening of Crowchild Trail to 6 lanes and the construction of new interchanges at Brisebois Drive/40th Avenue NW, Northland Drive and 53rd Street NW. The roadwork phase of construction was completed in late 2002. The final top-lift paving was completed in the Spring of 2003. Construction of the LRT formally commenced in late 2002, with the extension opening on
December 15, 2003.The cost of the entire project was approx. C$105 million.
